Summer Movie League: Week 17

Recap:

The Secret Life of Pets held onto the top spot at the box office, taking in an additional $50.8 million and raising its total to over $200 million.  It beat out Ghostbusters which managed to generate $46 million in business on its opening weekend.  That netted Greg $33.6 million with its 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  With these two films at the top of the box office, Greg was able to climb above me in the standings and move into 4th place.  He will need Pets to make $139 million more for it to reach the cap.  Regardless, it will end up close enough to the cap to make it worthwhile for Greg.

Paula and Chris continue to tighten their race and inch ever closer to Joe.  Despite the surprising box office performance of The Legend of Tarzan, it looks like the best finish Paula can hope for at this point is 3rd place.

Preview:

This week features the latest Star Trek sequel Star Trek Beyond.  Reviews are quite positive so far with an impressive 94% rating after 47 reviews.  On the flip side of that, Ice Age: Collision Course has an unimpressive 16% through 44 reviews.  This could spell the end for this animated franchise, and represents the final nail in my coffin in my complete debacle of a summer roster.  Lights Out continues to get high marks and is most certainly going to be some lost revenue that we’re all kicking ourselves over.  No reviews are listed yet for Jason Bourne or Bad Moms, both of which open next weekend.
