Summer Movie League: Week 22

Recap:

The last remaining movie scheduled for release on a roster entered the fray this weekend.  Kubo and the Two Strings opened with $12.6 million and stellar reviews at 96% on the T-meter.  That’s $12.1 in revenue for Tim, who is pretty much stuck in 5th place at this point.  In its 2nd weekend, Sausage Party dipped nearly 55% to $15.5 at the box office this weekend.  It’s total now stands at $65.5 million.  Also in its 2nd frame, Pete’s Dragon dropped 47% to $11.3 million with a box office total now at $42.9 million.  Coupled with the steady performance of Bad Moms, that was enough to keep the standings unchanged as Chris and Joe jockey for 2nd place.

Preview:

No previews of upcoming releases this week, as there are none left.  The Fall Movie League will kick off at the end of September and we will hold our auction draft in mid-September.  I will post the results of that as soon as it happens.

Instead, I’ll take a brief moment to preview the final standings.  Jason Bourne still has a little bit left in the tank, and should make a couple million more for Greg.  It’s also possible that he manages to wring out a million more from Ghostbusters.  He should finish right around $515 million.  I see absolutely no scenario in which Bad Moms and Pete’s Dragon bring in another $62 million for Chris nor a scenario in which Sausage Party brings in another $70 million for Joe.  Greg has won the 2016 summer, it’s just a question about what the final margin is.  It’s possible that Joe could overtake Chris for 2nd place, but I think it’s more probable that Chris ends in 2nd.  Tim will not be able to overtake Paula.  I will not even break $250 million, which is downright embarrassing.

With Greg’s win, he will select a punishment movie that I will have to watch and write a running diary of.  I will post that running diary here.
